The Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. Central Elementary School Drum and Bugle Corps bagged the Best Contingent award in the Parada Dabawenyo of the 72nd Araw ng Dabaw, Sunday. The group brought home P50,000 as prize.

The University of the Immaculate Concepcion Folkloric Band Ensemble placed second to win P40,000, while the Bolton Elementary School and Community Brass Band landed third, bringing home P30,000.

The Matigsalog Tribe settled for fourth place, bringing home P20,000. The Davao City Youth Symphonic Band, meantime, bagged the fifth spot, with a P10,000 cash prize.

The Davao Volunteer Fire Brigade, Rizal Memorial Colleges, Airsoft Warfare Operatives Legion-Davao, Maranao Tribe and the Crossing Bayabas National High School were each given P5,000 as consolation prizes.

Last Sunday, the Bolton Elementary School emerged grand champion in the First Sayawan sa Da'n street dancing competition.

The grand champion in Sayawan brought home P100,000 cash and a trophy.

Winning second and third place, respectively, were Magallanes Elementary School and Sta. Ana Central Elementary School. They took home P50,000 each, plus trophy.

Twelve other groups were each given P10,000 consolation prizes.

The contest, participated by different schools and barangays was divided into two parts -- the street performance and the showdown performance.

The street performance traversed the streets of San Pedro, Legaspi, Rizal, and Bolton to the tune of the Araw ng Dabaw official theme: "Bahaghari Tayo".

The showdown performance, on the other hand, was held at San Pedro St. facing Rizal Park with the performers dancing to the music of their choice.
